Streamline.net review

A genuine quote from a concerned customer

Quote of the day:

Avoid at all costs. This company sums up all that is bad about the internet.

As they insist on keeping your credit card details on file, then they automatically renew your subscription without any notice or warning and when you challenge them about this they still refuse to co-operate.

IN MY OPINION THIS COMPANY IS OUT TO MAKE A QUICK QUID AND THEY TIE YOU UP IN THEIR TERMS AND CONDITIONS.

AVOID.

My site is down yet again
There’s no point in contacting them any more, they simply don’t provide the service they say they do in the ads, they have the cheek to advertise in most mags begging for custom when they clearly can’t cope with the usage they have. We should all write to the media about this so called company and complain

I have had enough and there’s nothing I can do, my renewal has just been renewed and so i have another year with them and they don’t give refunds

I clicked the wrong button when adding a domain and they charged me twice.
My fault for clicking the wrong button, but thats tough they refuse to help.
Nothing works, cant get php board, or jomla working, and they dont give support or advice for this.
complete waste of money, and now I’m even having trouble closing the account.

Any support tickets raised about billing issues are just ignored, and yes dont bother trying to ring them unless you have a couple of spare days to wait…

I wish I had read these reviews before signing up with this company. A bunch of amateurs!! Appalling customer service, in fact you can’t even call it that! Their call centre is apparently in the Philippines not that I could ever get through, I raised tickets but there was never a reply, smarmy sales guys that thought it was funny not being able to get through totally unhelpful, inexperienced, I have been in the customer service industry for years these guys do not have a clue just awful. Avoid

Awful. I’ve had ongoing e-mail problems, unexplained e-mail and website downtime and every support request was replied with either an automated response unrelated to my issue, a pre-formatted response about issues I know did not exist, or were just completely ignored. I have now lost access to e-mails I kept for records and can only access my account sporadically. It is a common complaint across many boards. Avoid.

STREAMLINE.NET AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT

This company is now owned by 1and1 internet, check the review for this company and see just how bad they are rated!

They are without doubt the worst ever company in living history. I have a dedicated server with them which has now been offline for 5 weeks. All they will tell me is that they have senior engineers working on the problem I ask when will it be fixed only to be told they will need to speak to their engineers and get …

Terrible company, rubbish support, we have note been able to access parts of my mail account fro weeks and all you get is “senior engineers are dealing with it” if I could have put no stars above I would have. Been awful regarding emails accounts for months now.

Streamline in my experience is unreliable. I suffered from massive downtime periods. For the 3 weeks before moving to a new host my site was down almost 15 hours. I was never given an explanation as to why this happened in fact there was no reply from their support until my site was back on-line and then they just said that everything was ok. I continually had Fast CGI errors which meant that my site was unavailable and have since been told that this can be due to over-stretching server resources at the expense of the customer.

When I migrated to a new host and cancelled Streamline they said I would be refunded with the outstanding amount. Exactly the opposite happened as they initially took another payment off my card after the cancellation date (they keep your card number and take payment without letting you know!!!!).

Streamline.net is a nightmare.

Impossible to get on the telephone. Once you are in their clutches almost impossible to get out. I have begged and pleaded with them to cancel my account as my business is closed due to ill health, they make it as difficult as possible. I am a 76 year old and have impaired vision and not all that good with the computer, it seems that is manna from heaven to Streamline.net.

Streamline have twice taken money out of my account, I have messages from them saying the account is cancelled, don’t pay them on a card or you will regret it . I would have liked to know that I was dealing with an honest & reliable company.

Set up an account but after 6 months no longer need it. Trying to cancel is a complete joke. It takes seconds to create an account but weeks to cancel. Contacted their support who told me to log a ticket. Ticket reply told me to phone a number, number stated they were open until 19:00, my call was at 18:00, the line cut me off. called another number who told me to log a ticket!!! Explained that I had done that and called the original number I was told to. To which I was informed that I needed to speak direct to the cancellation team. When I asked why, I was told it was so they could validate me… a process I had already been through just to discuss the account. I will never use them again.

There are many users online that have used their services (including myself) and have found that their business practices are something to be desired. The site is safe, however the services they provide are not. I have sent a detailed list of my own personal experiences to the local trading standards, and I have had to ask my bank to block all future payment requests from streamline.net

I had to move from this company earlier last year for a variety of reasons

  1. Technical support is very lacking.
  2. Services activated without my permission and then charged to my account with no refund.
  3. You pay 2 years in advance, but if your card details expire within that time, they will block access to your account, even though you’ve paid in advance.
  4. You cannot remove your card details from their system
  5. Cancelling account is a lengthy and difficult process with no guarantee, for example, a company I worked for that was closed down 5 years ago used streamline, and just last week I started receiving e-mails from streamline saying they couldn’t renew the web hosting for the closed company of 5 years because the card had expired (the hosting account was cancelled when the company closed) this has now been passed onto trading standards.
  6. Servers are very slow if you are running a site powered by MySQL because they have the MySQL databases located on another server.
  7. No notice is given when they take money out your account and the only way you get to know is if they have failed at taking a transaction from your bank.
  8. Invoices do not correspond to what has been charged or what services were provided.
  9. Cancelling an account does not mean the account is cancelled and expect them to still try to charge you for services you haven’t used or services that you cancelled, I have asked my bank to block all future requests from streamline.
  10. Their terms & conditions are very dubious and are being looked at by my local Trading Standards.

To be honest when I first used them they were ok, but after having a few issues with them, that’s when you realise something is not right. They have a nice website, but that’s it. A good way to check is do a google search for “streamline.net, legal” issues date back several years but seem to be ongoing.

Why this site is rated green is beyond me, if you are considering going with streamline.net they are only good for HTML sites, other than that AVOID.

I didn’t know that my contract was going to be renewed automatically without any written notice, and today 23-02-2010 when I was going to change my hosting package I was informed by a technical help desk that my hosting and domain contract has been automatically renewed for another 2 years and I have an outstanding bill off £127. Good thing was they were not able to take the money out my card because I lost my card some time ago and the card number was changed. Is it not UK law to let the customer know before the contract is to renewed …? Could some one please advice me on how to rectify this situation.

Streamline.net is staggeringly bad. It is flabbergasting that a company can be so incompetent. Their customer service is Kafkaesque. Dealing with them has been one of the most dis-empowering and frustrating experiences of my life. Because they were unable to provide access to my domain’s control panel, they decided to re-set it. It didn’t help, but they had cut off my website and primary e-mail and then shirked responsibility for fixing it. A week later, they’ve been much less than no help at all. I am still trying to get them to unlock my domain (which they registered) so I can move it to another host, which I have to do because they refuse to take responsibility for it.

I have been a Streamline.net customer since 2004. My loyalty counts for nothing. They even blamed it for my problems – apparently they have a new system for registering domains and they can’t deal with legacy customers.

Thinking of Streamline.net as a host? Run away!

DO NOT USE STREAMLINE.NET.

THAY WILL TAKE MORE MONEY THAN YOU AGREE AND GIVE YOU NOTHING.

CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A JOKE.

I signed up to Streamline. net because their website looked great. They created an account for me straight away, but they had forgotten to add the site builder to it (free app). When i tried to add it on, it said “cannot authorise your card” (they take £1.00, then refund it…apparently!). I contacted my bank to find out the problem. They [bank] told me “Streamline.net has 5 payments to them…£50,and 4 lots of £1. As my initial price was only £39.99, i was confused!

I have reported them to their local Trading standards office.
I have written to them requesting an apology and a refund…i don’t hold out much hope though. So i have now contacted my solicitor. I know its not loads of money, BUT THIS COMPANY IS BAD, and should not get away with it.

I called streamline.net up. after 20 minutes of being passed about departments, i spoke to the first person again!

HE WAS THE RUDEST IDIOT EVER! (Andrew Connolly in case anyone wants to know).
WHEN QUESTIONED OVER THE PAYMENTS (should be £39.99, instead they took £54)

HIS REPLY WAS:  ”WELL THATS JUST TOUGH!”

I said i wanted to cancel the account and get a refund, which is my right under UK law. He said “DO WHAT YOU LIKE, IM NOT REFUNDING YOU”. I said that as i am canceling within 7 days the law states you must refund me. He said “I DONT CARE ABOUT THE LAW, OUR TERMS AND CONDITIONS SAY NO REFUNDS” and then put the phone down on me!!!

I signed up with Streamline.net about a year ago. I was originally drawn in by their cheap prices and offer of a free .co.uk domain. I didn’t really know better at the time but I wish I had done more research, if you search online for streamline.net complaints you’ll see what I mean.

Now I should point out that it wasn’t a particularly well used site, it was a simple personal blog with very few visitors and the most basic WP theme installed, yet it was regularly down, dreadfully slow and support was terrible.

To add insult to injury, I received no email saying that my hosting was up for renewal until I got an email saying a payment had failed (due to my debit card having expired). I had thought about switching my domain and hosting over anyway so I contacted their support to ask to change the tag to my new, preferred host and they refused and said that they would not do so until I had paid for another year’s hosting and the renewal of my domain (which was not due to expire for another year)! The worst thing was, they were charging more than the previous year, despite their prices actually dropping. Further research suggests that they have a habit of taking payments without their user’s knowing.

All in all, a terrible experience, I cannot speak any less of them. The “pro” package I had was slow, featureless (no fantastico or cpanel) and probably the worst customer service I’ve experienced in my life. Prices are not even comparatively cheap these days either. Avoid at all costs.

Don’t even take their “Free trial” like I did!.

I cancelled about 3 hours into the free trial and was still billed £80 a few months later for 2 years full subscription. Asking for refund gets you nowhere. Emails result in being pointed at their online ticket system. Customer service is non-existant. I’m pretty sure they use automatic responders as responses on their online ticketing system. Claw bank at bank and involvement of Trading Standards is the only way to get a response out of them.  Just stay well clear and NEVER give them your card details.

As with a lot of people, it started out ok with streamline, but after a while I found them a bit restrictive and expensive so transferred my account. About a year later they took £52 from my account for automatic renewal fees, when I phone up and said I left a year ago, they said they wouldn’t give a refund. After a mini argument, I hung up and wrote them this message….

To whom it may concern

Close my account with immediate effect!

I am disgusted with the service you have provided me and the situation you have put me in!

I left you a year ago and you have charged me a £52 renewal I didn’t want, surely your customer support should understand the basics – if I say I don’t want a product and take it back to the shop, I can get a refund! but you fail to understand this point! It shows that taking the money is more important than treating your customers with respect.

They are many forums around discussing your service, I have tended to ignore these as isolated cases – but I shall now be joining them in making sure that other customers do not join streamline.net.

I have been a web designer for over a few years now and have never came across a company with such poor customer relations skills in all my life.

I signed up to the free trial account which gives you 3 months free. I used this for testing purposes for a few weeks and found the service to be quite poor in terms of server performance so decided to forget about going any further with their services.

After the 3 months I was shocked to find that this company had taken nearly £100 from my bank account for payment of a service I didn’t want!! .. I contacted them thinking that they had made a mistake only to get a load of patronising babble from them saying it was in my terms and conditions when signing up for the trial!!!

I have now decided to run a protest website against this company at www.streamlinewebhosting.com with the full details as I was so disgusted by their attitude.

My opinion is simply this – AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!

Be careful of Streamline.net and read the small print. To begin with I thought they were a good company but they seem operate an obscure contract of automatic renewal every two years which ties you up for an additional two years with no refund and they have been awkward and uncooperative in a dispute. They can only be contacted using a 0845 number during my dispute as they instantly shut down the internet access to my account controls when I blocked the automated renewal payment.

Avoid!

As an internet company who deals with many hosting companies including STREAMLINE HOSTING on a daily basis these are the worst we have ever dealt with. The STREAMLINE SUPPORT is abysmal and the STREAMLINE SUPPORT staff are useless. They cannot answer simple questions about the service they sell and will not communicate with anyone even to answer queries and help unless you have an account with them to communicate through.

STREAMLINE SUPPORT are foreign and very difficult to understand, they sound like they are a million miles away and are difficult to hear.

STREAMLINE ARE AWFUL if you expect to get good support look elsewhere it is worth the extra pennies.

I can personally say that STREAMLINE HOSTING ARE THE WORST COMPANY EVER!!!

In all my years of internet marketing I have never come across such a poor service. This company refuses to give you access to your domain control panel if you do not wish to renew hosting which is in fact illegal. What is worse they palm you off with a telephone number that is never answered- 08449412000- THIS IS A CON. I find it hard to believe that a company can get away with this – a phone number set up to divert angry customers that is never answered. I rang up 1 min after opening hours and was on hold for 30 minutes.

DO NOT GO ANYWHERE NEAR THIS CON COMPANY.

I would normally class myself as rational… but in my personal opinion Streamline.net should be thrown out of a broken window in HELL!!

That would sum up the level of service I have received. Their customer service operators are way beyond rude(fact) and this has happened on many occasions which perplexed me as I am actually quite polite considering they overcharged me…. again. Biggest mistake signing up with these guys. If I could give them less than one star I would. On the plus side there control panel is good and easy to follow but God help you if anything goes wrong because you are likely to be met by an obnoxious techie. Maybe steamline should learn by ‘pickawebs.com’ chat instant messenger technical support. I spoke to them 4.30 in the morning and was amazed… now transferring all my domains. Grrrrrrreat!! :D

The way this company and it’s employees operate is rude, unhelpful and downright underhand. I asked for domains to be cancelled via their support system and was given a phone number to cancel. I called the number (for which I was being charged) and was just left on hold for over half an hour by which time I gave up. I am an extremely busy person, with a job and a life, so I haven’t got time to be on hold for god knows how long, waiting to ask Streamline to do what I had already asked them to do!! Shortly after this, I check my bank statement to find they had renewed the very domains I had asked to cancel and taken the money from my account without my knowledge. I called the phone number and waited, and waited until finally I got through to someone and explained what had happened. To my horror I was rudely told that I would not be receiving any refund – even though they could see I had asked for the cancellations – because its ‘against company policy’. All I was asking for is some common sense to be applied but this company is all about taking your money and not about serving their customers.

BEWARE!

Dont be fooled by their pretty website. The support is a load of rubbish. I think it’s just a one man show. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CARD DETAILS WITH THEM! Streamlinenet will try to bill you for anything they can, and without notice. Luckily my card expired. I gave them over a months notice to close the account. They say you have to call a number (never there to help with problems though!) which is the Closure Team. Then fill out a closure form which isn’t even on their site. They told me that the account would stay open until the balance was paid for: an unpaid invoice (basically another years subscription) so I just turned around and said they can do what they want. As long as you transfer your domains to another Registrar if you are already with them, they can’t do a thing after that. To be honest people, they can’t arrange a pissup in a brewery, let alone provide a reasonable level of service!

AVOID STREAMLINENET.CO.UK AT ALL COSTS!

Having some trouble with streamline myself but I am rather fortunate in that I cancelled the card I registered with them before they could extort me. They are refusing to close the account until the balance has been paid, and of course I am not going to pay it in a million years. They denied that I ever attempted to close the account (which is rubbish), but there is not a lot they can do. I am expecting them to spew some legal babble at some point but as it has been mentioned on this site already, they hardly have a leg to stand on.

Nov 7th 2008

I’m currently in dispute over unwarranted credit card charges & am having extreme difficulties even getting responses from their complaints department.

I signed-up for the 3 month free trial & submitted a support ticket requesting the account be cancelled, via the account control panel (as per their T&Cs), some 2 weeks before the end of the 3 months. I had already taken a copy of all account data.

I was then away from home, without Internet access to confirm they had cancelled the account. However, rather than cancel the account they had replied to the ticket requesting I back-up any account data before they continued with cancelling it (which I’d already done anyway). Having received no reply from me, rather than going ahead with my cancellation request they left the account open & charged my credit card. I have since complained via website, phone & letter & 1 month later they have still not responded back to my complaint.

My advice to others – avoid Streamline.net like the plague!

I have written a letter of complaint to streamline.net because I paid them to host my website and do not have a functioning site.

About a month ago, I found that I could no longer access my account. I reported the matter to the company and the majority of my emails are either ignored or I get an automated response.

I will sue Streamline.net if they do not provide the service I have paid for.

You are right to complain about this company. They are Crap!

Feb 29th 2008

WARNING: DO NOT USE STREAMLINE AS YOUR HOSTING PROVIDER!

I bought a reseller package (2 years) and listed below are the reasons I have moved my hosting elsewhere before my first year was up.

Reasons why:-

Downtime

I have experienced endless problems with all aspects of the hosting and domain emails, to list but a few:- frequently crashing SQL server, consistent ftp errors when uploading, slow DNS response times… the list goes on.

The worst thing that happened was when they reset all the passwords on everything related to my account causing me to have to contact all my clients to tell them their passwords had been reset, and then streamline’s servers crashed because everyone was trying to reset their passwords at once, so I and my clients were without email for a day.

Slow Servers

Because their hosting is unlimited space and bandwidth it means that most of the time their servers have a very slow response time. and the upload speed on the ftp is very slow.

Customer Service

Their customer support is the worst I have ever experienced, they don’t have email support or telephone support, only support tickets which you have to submit through their website and when you get a reply you get an email saying ‘you have a reply to ticket number xxxx’ but doesn’t actually have the message in it so you have to log back into your account to view the reply!

So people PLEASE PLEASE DON’T use this provider, it will give you a headache for months, however tempting the unlimited looks.

When I tried to close my account, I was initially told I could not close the account when the contract was active. Then, in February 2010, they auto-renewed the contract and took money from my account without providing any notification or a chance to cancel. I found out when I saw an unauthorised transaction on my statement.

I followed the proceedure given on the website and they still will not close the account, far less return the money they took for renewing it – even though the refund was requested within 5 working days of the renewal.

When exactly are you allowed to close an account with them?

I have contacted the Office of Fair Trading to attempt to get the account closed.

I cannot recommend Streamline on a technical or business level – the initial reason the account was being closed were:
    1) The long delay in getting support tickets resolved,
    2) Their servers being extremely slow
    3) High prices

There are better hosters out there.

Anyone considering using streamline should check this independent review site for webhosting companies:

    http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews-all-66682.html

10 comments per page, I’m on page 9 and so far no-one has anything positive to say about Streamline, that makes 90 negative reviews, 0 positive reviews.

    Avoid streamline at all costs.

Has anyone managed to cancel a renewable contract successfully?

I want to move elsewhere, I don’t mind losing the domain name, just don’t want to end up paying another renewal fee next year.

The TC’s state I need to send a written cancellation 30 days before the renewal date (March 2011). Can I request this in advance of 30 days?

The T&C’s are not clear on written notification (does that include email).

    • The best method to ensure they don’t sting you for renewal is to cancel the credit card which is registered with them. Cancelling you account is very difficult – you have to raise a support ticket, then ring the helpline but it’s unlikely they’ll pick up before you’ve been on the phone for 45 minutes.

    • mentalist3d says:

Yep, cancelling your card with them is the safest option, don’t even let on to them that you are planning to cancel, they are not to be trusted. Tell your bank not to accept payment requests from streamline either.

Log into your control panel and update the IPSTAG to your new host, once transfer is complete, remove as much info as you can, delete all files left on the server, and just abandon the account. They’ll figure it out once they’ve tried to take a payment from you and failed, but by then, there will be nothing they can do to you :)

      • bajsingh says:

Are you sure this is feasable. Im at the point now where they are asking me to renew my card details before my account is suspended however I don’t want to renew the account.

Won’t they come chasing after me in the future if I just “ignore” it?

      • If you don’t want to renew – make sure you have let them know that you want to cancel asap! If you have let them know then you should be in the clear…

      • mentalist3d says:

Personally their terms and conditions are illegal within the UK and UK law states that the law comes first, so if you really want to get picky you can get them done on their terms and conditions, which are illegal and make any contract void in the 1st place.

They are out for a quick buck, I have had 3 domains with them which I removed and canceled my card, I get the e-mails saying they’ve tried to renew and nothing else, as they know if they were to pursue me, it would cost them more money than what the web hosting was worth, then their services would be really put into question concerning the legality of their operations.

So from a scammers point of view they will try to intimidate but it will never go to court, they would have too much to lose.

  5. bajsingh says:

Hey, unfortunately, since my renewal date had passed, I ended up paying up but then phoned their line to state I wanted to cancel. Now I have to wait until a ticket is processed before I can however these tickets are internal.

So if there are problems in the future, i.e. they want to collect more money despite the fact that I cancelled my account then how can I prove that I cancelled my account as I wont have any access to the tickets because they could just delete them.

They don’t send emails as cancellation verification, only tickets.

    • mentalist3d says:

I canceled an account with them when I company I worked for closed, this was before I realised they were scammers. A few years later they tried to renew the account automatically, the only reason I got to know about it, is that I received an e-mail saying that the account renewal was unable to be processed due to card details being wrong.

SO even if you cancel it is no guarantee that the account will stay cancelled. Get your bank to issue you with a new bank card that will ensure they cannot just start billing you again when it pleases them.

  6. I have four websites with them and the renewal is due quite soon. Have had similar unexpexted charges from them. Not being verty technical can someone advise me on how best to transfer the domains to another multiple web host company and any recomendations for a good host? many thanks

    • If you’re happy with the service and wish to continue, then expect to have the hosting renewed without notice. The first thing you’ll know is a line on your bank statement. If you’re not happy, then cancel BEFORE then renewal date or they will lock your account which will prevent you from being able to transfer to a new host. Even if you wish to transfer and cancel your account, they will only release the domain once you have paid for a full year. You have been warned!

I recently transferred my hosting away from streamline.net. By what other people have written above, its lucky that I filled in the details in the control panel to transfer my domain name before I told Streamline I wanted to cancel.

I raised a support ticket asking to cancel which was ignored, so I phoned their support line (the non-premium rate number I found on this site) and spoke to “Charles,” that probably wasn’t his real name given his heavy Indian accent. Eventually my account was Cancelled, it shows up as this on their control panel.

I’ve asked them to remove my credit card details, which seemingly they are reluctant to do despite acknowledging that they will take no further payments. I’m now writing to the Information Commissioners Office since I believe this is against the Data Protection Act 1998 (keeping data longer than it is necessary). I think I’ll just cancel my card too, just to be safe.

Wise choice, I found it best to transfer away, but then I let them work it our for themselves that I’ve cancelled as I seen to many reviewers on other sites complaining about the cancellation (lack of) service.

Cancelling your card is the wisest, as I’ve said before they tried to renew a cancelled account that was several years old, so after several years of inactivity they tried to start billing again, scammers.

Please let us know what the IC has to say about your case, I would be interested to know. Good luck with your new hosting ;)
