I’m delighted to see yet another protest web site up and running against this totally incompetent shower of thieving idiots. Their business practices leave much to be desired. Heed this warning and the warning on the fore page of this site.. Do your research on this lot before you even consider using them as your host. I’m not going to re write what’s already been written as there’s tons of reviews on this lot s**te. My advice as always is to avoid them at all costs!!!!
Signed up to Streamline on one of their 2 year plans in 2008 and used it for a while before opening a new reseller account with another provider and then forgot all about it. None of the sites with Streamline are being used at all. All domains are handled elsewhere.
Couple of weeks ago I had an email to say that the account had been suspended and when I tried to login to the control panel it said I could only get through if I paid my next invoice for the 2010 to 2011 period. The card I originally used has since expired so presume they tried to take payment from that and It said faliure to pay will mean ‘Your website will be suspended if you do not settle your account.’
This was at 6am on the Saturday (3rd April) and it said it expired that day. I tried to phone cancellations but they are only open Monday – Friday 9 to 5pm so i filled out a ticket saying please close this account it is no longer needed anymore, feel free to delete the files etc. on the 3rd April.
Phoned on the evening of the cancellation date and spoke to the most deliberatley unhelpful, miserable woman you could imagine and told her I no longer need the hosting. She said she cannot close the account until the outstanding invoice has been settled. I told her I no longer need the hosting for the forthcoming year and to close it. I said I am not pying almost £200 for something I will not use. She said I should have notified the them before the 3rd April and that she will put it forward to their credit control section who will be in touch.
Where do I stand? I no longer want the hosting, they don’t have my bank details so can’t take any payment. The only reminder I got about it was on the day of it’s renewal so I immediateley informed them I no longer wanted it. A quick google reveals many, many complaints about Streamline and their customer service including this forum here.
Should I just sit tight, don’t want anything bad on my credit rating though but neither do I want to waste £200 on something I don’t want.
They eventually replied to the ticket on the 9th April saying that they again that they cannot close the account until the balance has been paid.
What can they actually do now? They might be presuming I need to access the contol panel to move domains etc. but I don’t. They can delete the lot as far as I am concerned, I don’t need any of it. I think I got lucky in that the card had expired totally and is no longer in use. How can they force me to pay for something I don’t want?
I liken it to the AA or RAC, their memberships always auto-renew but they always send you a letter well in advance telling/warning you that your card will soon be processed. The down-right callous and sneaky way that Streamline seem to be doing it is very wrong.
Any advice most welcome.
This is a tough one, and very similar to many other people’s experiences. In theory they could use a debt collection agency to chase you, so I would seek legal advice if you can.
